Lesson 1: Exploring materials

Whatever you choose to draw with you can create a new feeling on paper

It doesn’t even have to begin with an idea. Take a charcoal piece in your hand and you will be guided through some exercises that will give you some interesting outlines for an image. Materials to collect together, if you are in your own space are:

paper (many kinds and sizes, including recycled, as long as it takes a mark)

charcoal, willow or compressed

pencil crayons, the soft kind

pastels, oil or chalk

any other dry material you would like to try - pens, pencils

inks, watercolour, gouache are also welcome

This is a tryout session that will end up with a serious work and some pleasant surprises.
