A retrospective of Scottish paintings, iPad drawings and sketchbook items. A full Exhibition with approximately 36 paintings and ceramics. Works in Scottish clay draw on the buildings of Marchmont, well-known stories and musings on landscape, life and animals. Unusually, Helen Imogen carves pictures into her thrown pots and decorates them with bright colours. As Eeyore said - useful pots to put things in. A variety of shapes as clay dictates the throw. No two alike.

The “Spirit of Edinburgh” large oil painting was inspired by the title of a previous members exhibition at the club. Thus Scottish animals, deer, doves and pheasants join the Covanenters who contributed much to the history of Scotland. They are laid into a view across Edinburgh from the Pentland hills near Oxgangs, into the Kingdom of Fife;

Colorful abstract pastel portrait of a woman with long hair, smiling, with expressive and vibrant strokes in multiple colors including yellow, green, pink, blue, orange, and purple, on tracing paper and displayed recently at Scottish Arts Club

Helen Imogen is a painter and artist, among other things, based in Cambridge and Edinburgh. Using a wide range of materials and styles to transmit colour, fun and stories above all, she is interested in your loved one’s history.

Following a lifetime of art, Helen Imogen is embarking on life as an artist who exhibits. There is a drive towards words with pictures, promoting people’s real-life, good stories. We can draw on the resilience and experience of our elderly, connecting us with our own history.

INTRODUCING Imogen Art

Statues seen from the Central Library, drawn on iPad during a seminar. Sculpture of a group of people, adult and two children viewing the street, with relief pieces on warm walls.
  • A degree and DPhil (PhD) in biochemistry and molecular biology respectively. Then computing so that the biology workload could be streamlined, designing software for biologists. Finally a social scientist studying Social Services and child psychology - with Counselling too - see LinkedIn

  • Laboratory research scientist in biological cellular molecular biology studying the intricacies of the cell, and unicellular parasites. Moved onto wider studies looking at cancer genetics, creating software for discovery and easing of workload.

  • Art has been an at home studio, or simply drawing, since age 4. First a pencil on scraps of paper, then posters and crafts at school (all afternoon - stops all the boredom and exercises the other side of the brain). Photography led to portraiture, portraits to everything. Retirement project was always to become an artist professional so back to school for some amazing art tuition, so feeling at home as a contemporary artist with a classical armoury. Drawing, on ceramics, is a destination.
