Hope & Glory Homes

A concept. The best way to reduce cognitive decline is to live with other people. Many have come to the conclusion that community is the way forwards, and that it is best when we live with others (as we do in a family). The social care sector struggles globally with financing elderly care and those who are growing old refuse to consider how they will cope. Hope & Glory House is a concept that allows a young-and-old community, a proper home, to thrive. We hope to start the first one soon.

The illustrations set out the conundrum. Do we want to end up in a nursing home, with 3 years to be nursed? While there is freedom to care within the family it is not easy when sundown wandering and lack of recognition hit home - not the loved one’s fault. Is the alternative, as many believe, to start up new, Christian communities where folk can commit to eachother and loving and living for the Lord Jesus Christ and those living with them? There would be nursing care within a larger home. Friendships between able visitors from within the community, and the nursed, would become a thing so that no-one dies without friends. In this way also, no one has to leave their home. Maybe even better things might happen when we expose our minds to Godly teaching and a new way of living. There are so many good stories. We need to set up our own Hope & Glory Homes, and keep up our hope til our goodly end.

The illustrations set out a story with different endings. If you have a story about someone you know that you would like celebrated in illustrations like this, please get in touch (think 1-12 pictures). I am keen to get a collection of stories together to show the adventures and resilience of our preceding generations, and get a pictorial sense of our immediate history.

Fundraising for Alzheimers Research UK, a Cambridge company looking for a cure for Dementia. I’m running my second half marathon in 2026 and would love your support (the price of a donated cup of coffee is welcome). Alzheimer’s Society (another charity) produce a lot of information to help with the end of life journey - please click to see my donation page.
