Carved Ceramics

Scottish clay is hand-thrown, and allowed to find its own shape on the wheel. The greenware is carved meditationally, without a pattern. Every item is unique in shape and design. Further decoration may be before or after bisque firing, using black iron oxide, various underglazes. Firing is to Cone 6, with or without a glaze that vitrifies to give an interesting finish. Every piece an experiment. A story with every ‘pot’.

All of this work could not have happened without my good friends and teachers at Potter Around in Kirknewton near Edinburgh. Check them out!
