Past Works in oils

Until recently, Imogen focused on oil paintings, using Old Master techniques (so that the works can last 300 years) and modern oil paints from Rowney, Windsor Newton and Michael Harris. First tutored in classes at the Art Students League in New York (1990-1992) with Ronn Scherr (who taught me the 3-d moulding of paint layers, and the affect of the painting across the room - it has to work small). Then Hannaniah Harari looked for a story, in a 6 hour sitting, and gave out a first list of materials and colours to buy. Hilary Holmes afforded longer poses and practical colour advice (Indian Red for flesh tone shadows). Oldrich Teply was the professional who taught a portrait in 3 hours (including coffee break) and some great classmates conversing over coffee in a nighttime diner. Portraiture was the theme of all these tutored painting classes.

Portraiture means stories means backgrounds, so a departure and a task to be able to represent anything. These are larger paintings (>1m in one dimension). These are tight; experience started looser paintings.
